INDIA Our 'Friends' Electrics

It's an incredible 21 years since nonegenarian comedy racist Prince Philip shocked the world with his misplaced jibe at Indian electricians.

Although gimlet-eyed BBC royal toad Nicholas Witchell described the aside as "Completely out of character", it nevertheless took the combined diplomacy of a raft of Whitehall Foreign Office mandarins, the CBI arbitration council and TV DIY guru Tommy Walsh to soothe fears that the Duke had implied Indian tradesmen might not be meeting the rigorous standards set by electricians' trade body the NICEIC.

We've taken a peek behind the skirting boards at some recent wiring schemes, to see how sparkies from Delhi to Kolkata have upped their game since those less illuminated times.

The results may shock you!

Ohm My God!
High tension
Wall of death
Street fright
Blown away
Watt a mess
Black - live, red - dead
PCB gone mad
Assault and battery
