DELHI Dream On

Delhi alley

We arrived safely in Delhi, but spent a couple of hot, tired, jet lagged and grouchy days in and around our small, dim hotel room in the Pooja 'Palace' (be ready for lots more over-exaggeration as we progress).

Room with a phew

Our pre-booked airport-hotel taxi couldn't find the hotel, but circled around for 20 minutes, so I hopped out and chatted to a friendly local, who hopped in and took us straight there, tucked away up a side alley/building site.

Where else?

The neighbourhood, Karol Bagh, seemed a good cross-section of city life - teeming with people, traffic, street market stalls selling clothes, jewellery, street food, machine parts, strange smokey things being produced from within darkened tarpaulins.

The buildings are part falling down, part half built, all grimy and covered in sun-worn signs and faded posters. Traffic rumbles through and around everywhere. In all, it's a mess, but people are just getting on with life and we'll have to get used to it.

PS The photos will get better and the words cheerier, so do come back for the next post.
